We congratulate Gianni & Cristiana on the spectacular intimate and personal Italian eatery that they have created down the road from us. Not only has La Sosta been voted the no.1 restaurant in Swellendam by TripAdvisor, but they are prominantly displayed as no.3 in South Africa. What an amazing accolade.

Gianni & Cristiana came to Swellendam from Milan about 5 years ago, he originally an optometrist and she, a banker, with a dream to live our wonderful South African lifestyle. They have brought the warmth, passion, quality and attention to detail of Italy to our lovely little town. We are grateful.

La Sosta’s menu features a selection of typical Italian dishes, such as home-made ravioli, gnocchi, tiramisu and my personal favourite, pannacotta – but it also incorporates a fusion of new tastes, thanks to the selection of local game, such as kudu, springbok and ostrich.

Richard and I ate from the simple Bistro menu last Sunday night. As always, the service from Gianni himself was warm and professional, the food was absolutely delicious and the soft Summer (weather was 36′C on Sunday) evening breeze through the large open window was more than welcome. Beautiful homemade ravioli with a tomato pureé and authentic caprese salad for starters. Rich had the most delectable Chalmar beef fillet with strong fresh rosemary flavours served with potato & leek soufflé, I had the slow-cooked Springbok shank with polenta, mash and the most delicious ratatouille. Of course we had the tiramisu and pannacotta for dessert. I particularly love the fact that Gianni offers 375ml bottles of the Graham Beck Brut bubbly… All in all a gorgeous evening out.

Do yourself a favour and visit La Sosta at least once during your visit to Swellendam.
