Once again the mad cyclists descended on Swellendam for the Double Century race this year. What fun! We are so grateful for the exposure and income that this endurance race brings to our town and I can’t believe that it’s been an entire year since the last one!
This time Schoone Oordt offered dinner on both the Friday and Saturday nights to the ‘Vanilla Gorilla’s', so we spent a large portion of the weekend cooking up a storm. Our meals are rustic, robust home-cooked fare like homemade pasta with a choice of bolognese sauce, alfredo sauce or pesto. Delicious homemade garlic bread and an exceptionally large, fresh green salad. Saturday night was a traditional braai with chops, boerewors, pork ribbetjies, chicken skewers, homemade roosterkoek, two salads and malva pudding with fresh farm cream. For me, there’s nothing more satisfying than well-fed guests and our meals are made with passion and love.
Miles Alexander who has a cheffing background as well as various management experience has come to assist me run Schoone Oordt. We are very fortunate to have him on board and welcome him into the family with open arms.
We definitely did something right this weekend as I’ve already received an enquiry on rooms for next year! Thank you to the cyclists and the organisers for supporting us and our town. We look forward to welcoming you all back around this time next year!
