Bontebok National Park

Our Schoone Oordt Family in relaxation mode

For us, this time of year is a time of gratitude.  A time to reflect on the wonderful people that are our Schoone Oordt Family & Friends, without whom, Schoone Oordt, just simply wouldn’t be.  Thank you to our truly beautiful guests (read friends) that choose to stay with us when there are so many brilliant options available, not only in Swellendam, but all over South Africa.  Thank you to our staff (read family) that give of their time so passionately and eagerly and strive for perfection in their work every single day.  And thank you to our suppliers (also read friends) that deliver on their promises and yield ethical and quality products.  Every single one of you contribute to our precious Schoone Oordt Country House and we are more than grateful.

Each year around this time, we like to say thank you to our staff for their dedication and effort with an afternoon of fun, relaxation and tranquility.  This year, they chose a traditional South African barbeque (braai) at the Bontebok Park.  We couldn’t have thought of a better venue!  In Swellendam there are many great spots for year-end activities and functions but none quite like Bontebok National Park just outside the town. With its beautiful fynbos landscapes and views of the Langeberg Mountains it’s the perfect place for some peace and quiet…and a braai.

Gorgeous views of the Langeberg Mountains from the Bontebok National Park

Bontebok National Park is (quite aptly) home to the endangered Bontebok and on a small game viewing trip through the park you’re likely to also encounter the Red Hartebees and Grey Rhebuck as well as some Cape Mountain Zebra, an Ostrich and a Tortoise or two. The park offers camping, bird viewing, hiking trails as well as braai and picnic facilities for day visitors.

Fun & Laughter around the picnic tables

Everybody pitched in under the superb guidance of Chef Obie and prepared delicious Christmas meats and salads for lunch.  There was much laughter and fun around the picnic tables as they snapped Christmas crackers and later on a jolly few burst out into spontaneous song and dance.

The gorgeous Breede Rivier (wide river in Afrikaans)

Everybody had the most wonderful day and we are so pleased that we could do this small thing to show our staff how appreciated they are.  We are so grateful for all that they do for us.

Here’s to a spectacular 2017!
